About Aisling D'Art
Aisling D'Art is the pen name of a fine artist and oil painter. As "Aisling D'Art," she was one of the first people to post her daily journal online, long before blogs were invented. For personal privacy -- and because it was considered strange to keep an online diary -- she adopted the name Aisling D'Art.
Initially, Aisling talked about her painting. Then, she realized that she could introduce more people to art as a form of personal expression. In the late 1990s, she began to share more accessible art techniques, including art journaling and other paper-related arts.
As Aisling's popularity grew, she expanded to several websites, including Aisling.net. She started several art-related Yahoo Groups, including Artists Journals 2 (aka AJ2, now WAJ2), Wild Art Dolls, and AJmarketing (a spinoff of AJ2, sharing art marketing tips), plus about a dozen other groups. Most of them now have membership in the hundreds if not thousands, and most are still very active. All are now owned and moderated by Aisling's successors.
In late 2007, Aisling retired from teaching and from most of her online activities, to devote more time to her painting and fine art. However, she continues to create irregular podcasts, write for several publications, launch quirky projects, and review books.
All of Aisling's online shops are named after her imaginary country, Santa Flamingo: Cafe Press, Etsy, and--of course--SantaFlamingo.com.
